The Cobb Judicial Circuit has announced that Superior Court Judge A. Gregory Poole plans to retire, a decision set to take effect on January 2, 2026. Poole, with a career that spreads across nearly 23 years, will conclude his tenure which has been marked by dedication and service within the community he has long called home. "It has been an honor to serve the citizens of the Cobb Judicial Circuit as a Superior Court Judge for the past thirteen years and as a Cobb County Juvenile Court Judge for the previous ten years," Judge Poole stated in his letter to the Governor, which was provided to Cobb County Government News.

His work on the bench began after he was elected to the Superior Court in July 2012. Judge Poole would commence his role on January 1, 2013, and would later serve as Chief Judge from 2023 to 2025. Throughout his judicial journey, Poole has played a pivotal role in preserving the court's integrity and managing the escalating complexities associated with a burgeoning county. The commitment of Judge Poole reached beyond the local level as he played an active part in the Council of Superior Court Judges’ Mandatory Continuing Judicial Education Committee.

Prior to ascending to the bench, Judge Poole's career in law commenced in 1985 following his admission to the Georgia Bar. His influence extended into various capacities, including his tenure as President of the Georgia Council of Juvenile Court Judges and his role as a Trustee of the Georgia Institute of Continuing Judicial Education. He has also been acknowledged for his contributions to the Charles Weltner Family Law American Inn of Court as an emeritus member, a Master of the Bench, and a participant on the Executive Committee.

Poole's roots in the area are deep, having graduated from local public schools, Presbyterian College in 1982, and the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1985. His family life, shared with wife Lucia Poole, assistant principal at Harrison High School, and their six children, remains closely tied to the Marietta area. In line with his enduring commitment to justice and peace, Judge Poole has expressed his intention to continue contributing to the legal field post-retirement by offering his services as a mediator and seeking the Governor Kemp’s appointment as a Senior Superior Court Judge.
