In a late-night intervention, Cohasset Police apprehended a motorist for operating under the influence with two young children in the car. The Cohasset Police Department detailed the arrest that occurred after a traffic stop on Chief Justice Cushing Highway. The driver, identified as Milton Duarte, 34, of Holbrook, MA, was observed speeding at 1:18 a.m. and led authorities on a brief pursuit before being stopped.
During the arrest, Officer Kevin Lynch observed signs of impairment, and Duarte failed field sobriety tests. An open bottle of tequila was found in the vehicle, and the children, ages nine and five, were unrestrained. The children were taken to Cohasset Police Headquarters and later reunited with their mother. Duarte faces charges including third-offense OUI liquor, OUI with a suspended license, and child endangerment.
Following Duarte's arrest, bail was set at $5,000, and he remained in custody until this morning. His vehicle was impounded, and a report was filed with the Department of Children and Families to review the children's welfare and provide any necessary interventions.
