An unsettling incident occurred within the Englewood neighborhood, prompting a community alert for an attempted child luring. The Chicago Police Department has issued a notice about this event, which took place on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. During the incident, a minor was approached by an individual attempting to lure her into a vehicle.
According to the official police alert, the attempt occurred between 7:40 pm, and 7:55 pm on the 7200 to 7300 block of South May Street. The victim was walking home when she was approached by a man driving a Silver Chevy Malibu with a non-functioning passenger headlight. He offered to smoke with her in an effort to entice her into the car. The girl managed to escape to a family friend's home and witnessed the suspect vehicle repeatedly circling the block before leaving the area.
The suspect is described as a male African American, between the ages of 35 and 40, with a dark complexion and a twists hairstyle. He was last seen wearing a black jacket or hooded sweatshirt, and has a heavy set. However, his exact height remains unknown.
Residents and visitors of the area are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. "Be aware of this crime and alert family, friends, and co-workers who live in or frequent, the area," the police statement warns. Individuals are advised to avoid pursuing a fleeing suspect and instead provide all relevant information to the police.
