A tragic incident unfolded at Hookena Beach Park in South Kona, where a 62-year-old man from Connecticut succumbed to the waters while snorkeling. Bryan Coppola of Bethlehem, Connecticut, was reported to have been in distress during a snorkeling activity before being pulled unresponsive from the water, according to KHON2.
Hawaii Island police received reports of the incident yesterday at approximately 1:35 p.m., when Coppola and a family member were snorkeling together. Efforts to revive him were initiated by onlookers and were continued by the medics from the Hawaii Fire Department upon their arrival. Despite these efforts, Coppola was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital, KITV reported.
The Hawaii Police Department is leading the investigation into the drowning and, at this time, does not believe foul play was involved. They are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and provide details that could assist in their ongoing investigation.
Information can be shared with the department by calling the non-emergency line at 808-935-3311 or reaching out via email to Officer Cody Sheddy at [email protected], as stated by KITV.
