Coral Gables Police have recently partnered with Target to deliver a dose of holiday cheer to a group of neurodivergent students. The "Heroes and Helpers" event, conducted in collaboration with Crystal Academy, invited these young minds to a unique shopping spree, escorted by officers who aimed to foster positive connections with the youth. “We really appreciate the fact that Target has allowed us to do this and kind of work with the kids and, again, spread some of that holiday spirit you don’t see too often from us in blue,” Coral Gables Police Chief Ed Hudak stated, as reported by WSVN.
Simultaneously, Hollywood officers and firefighters joined hands with the retail giant for the annual Heroes and Helpers evening. This initiative was documented in a Hollywood Police Department Facebook post, detailing how thirty-five local students were meticulously chosen by Hollywood PAL officers and School Resource Officers for a festive shopping tour. The event showcased the glee of children as they picked Christmas gifts, an experience described by the department as truly unforgettable and reflective of a supportive community ethos.
Jissele Rivera, a mother of one of the students remarked about the Coral Gables initiative, "It’s kind of hard to always shop for him on the holidays, but seeing him and being with the people he loves the most at this school just made me so happy, and he was able to pick what he wanted," she told WSVN.
