An abandoned building that was once part of the Heron Bay community in Coral Springs suffered a major fire over the weekend. According to WSVN, the structure at 11801 Heron Bay Blvd collapsed after flames engulfed it yesterday, prompting a response from the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department. Firefighters found the building fully ablaze upon arrival.
Crews worked to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures, including a Marriott hotel next door, Local 10 reported. The building, which formerly served as the clubhouse for a defunct golf course, had been abandoned and vulnerable to vandalism, according to neighbors.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The collapse of the building has left a gap where a once-recognizable community landmark stood.
