A tragic event unfolded in Cordova after a woman allegedly stabbed her husband to death before he was involved in a car crash. Sheila Curtis, 56, has been charged with second-degree murder following the discovery of her husband, Derrick Curtis, badly bleeding in his wrecked vehicle, according to a report by WREG.
Shelby County deputies were called to the scene at Macon Road and Houston Levee last Saturday, where they found Derrick with three stab wounds on his leg. According to FOX13 Memphis, Derrick had informed an SCF paramedic that his wife had stabbed him before he was quickly transported to Regional One Hospital, where he later died.
During the investigation, detectives found in the car several items belonging to Sheila, including her purse and cellphone, as reported by Action News 5. Sheila provided a partial statement to authorities, claiming that an argument had taken place following a funeral they attended in Bolivar, after which Derrick dropped her off before the accident.
However, Sheila Curtis refused to fully elaborate on the cause of the argument, drawing attention to a history of domestic violence between the couple. An individual who gave a ride to Sheila and her mother mentioned to detectives, as per Action News 5, that Sheila's mother disclosed they had "gotten into it," which necessitated their need for a ride home. Sheila Curtis is currently being held on a $500,000 bond, and a court date has yet to be scheduled, according to court records.
