A Decatur man, Makell Demonko Mallory, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison following a joint investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Homeland Security Investigations. The 25-year-old was convicted of sex trafficking two minors, according to a statement by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Mallory entered a guilty plea to two counts of Sex Trafficking of a Minor on November 5. The GBI's Human Exploitation & Trafficking (HEAT) Unit, alongside HSI's Human Trafficking & Smuggling Group, first began the investigation into Mallory in June 2023, after receiving a tip concerning the possible sex trafficking of a runaway minor. In addition to the GBI and HSI, the Dekalb County Police Department, Dekalb County District Attorney’s Office, and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, were integral in the efforts that led to Mallory's conviction.

According to the GBI, Mallory directed one of the victims, a missing and endangered minor, to engage in commercial sex acts at a hotel in College Park, GA. A recovered second minor related to a similar Dekalb County inquiry also identified Mallory as her trafficker, stating that he had subjected her to sexual servitude and had threatened her with a firearm.

The conviction follows a federal indictment in April 2024, where Mallory faced charges for two counts of Sex Trafficking of a Minor, one count for each victim - one being recovered by GBI & HSI and the other by Dekalb County Police Department. The efforts to bring Mallory to justice highlight the collaborative work between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies dedicated to combatting human trafficking and providing protections for those most vulnerable in our communities.

Makell Demonko Mallory will now serve 120 months in federal prison following his conviction. Communities are encouraged to come forward with any information, reaching out directly to the GBI's HEAT Unit or the Albany Dougherty Strategic Investigations Unit.
