A DeKalb County man, identified as 41-year-old Roland Sukoo, is now facing charges for two counts of malice murder following an overnight shooting at a townhome community in unincorporated Stone Mountain. Initially, the incident was investigated as a potential murder-suicide situation, but further scrutiny has led to a different conclusion, with DeKalb Police shifting to classify the case as a double murder. This development comes in the wake of a gruesome discovery made last Friday morning.
Officers responded to the Golden Gate Luxury Townhomes off Chatfield Drive around 1:15 a.m. and found a grim scene: a woman and a young girl shot and killed, and a man—later identified as Sukoo—seriously injured. An investigation that continued into the night led authorities to believe that Sukoo’s involvement was far deeper than that of a mere shooting survivor, identifying him instead as an active participant in the tragic event. As per FOX 5 Atlanta, Sukoo is currently in custody at a hospital and will be transferred to the DeKalb County Jail upon medical clearance.
The DeKalb Police, amidst their investigation, found themselves within a community engulfed in shock and disbelief, as described by neighbor Zakiyah Coakley to FOX 5 Atlanta: "I honestly think that’s crazy. I don’t even understand how someone can do that. I pray for the family but yeah, that’s wow."
While the identities of the slain woman and child remain undisclosed, and the nature of their relationship to Sukoo still unclear, it is evident that a domestic argument gave way to a scenario far more violent and deadly.
