DeKalb County Welcomes Darnell D. Fullum as New Director of Public Safety

Fullum, with a robust 38-year background in fire service and public sector leadership, takes the helm as Director of Public Safety, a critical position for the community's wellbeing. The announcement was made official by the county's CEO, Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, who praised Fullum's strategic aptitude and steadfast dedication to both employees and residents. Fullum steps into a role recently vacated by the retiring Jack Lumpkin, who will remain on board until February to assist in the transition, according to a statement obtained by DeKalb County News.

Fullum is no stranger to the inner workings of emergency management and coordination, having already set a remarkable precedent as Fire Chief of DeKalb Fire Rescue Department since 2014. Here, he successfully oversaw over 850 members and 26 fire stations. The CEO spoke of his track record in modernizing public safety systems and fostering team strength, vital traits for shepherding the community's safety efforts into the coming years. Before his tenure in DeKalb, Fullum was deeply involved with Fulton County Fire Rescue Department accumulating a wealth of experience across several ranks and roles.

Holding an advanced degree in leadership and an undergraduate in Management, his academic credentials are matched with specialized honors -- including the Chief Fire Officer designation and membership in the Institution of Fire Engineers.
