Tragedy struck the community of Livingston Parish as a two-vehicle crash resulted in fatalities and injuries last Friday.
According to a statement released by Louisiana State Police Troop A, the accident occurred on LA 1019, near Amite Church Road and involved John Cason, a 55-year-old Denham Springs resident who was driving a Mazda 3 and was pronounced dead following the incident, driving his vehicle north when it crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a Nissan Altima, meanwhile the driver of the Nissan sustained moderate injuries.
The investigation into why Cason's vehicle veered into the opposing lane is ongoing, with impairment currently ruled out as a cause.
Authorities underscored the importance of road safety following the crash, urging motorists to use seat belts and avoid distractions or driving while fatigued. They noted that while some collisions are unavoidable, many can be prevented through heightened awareness and strict adherence to basic safety measures, according to the Louisiana State Police.
