A grand jury in Denver has charged seven individuals with a total of 131 counts in connection with a sophisticated identity theft ring that has allegedly been operating across the metro area. According to a post by the Denver Police Department, the indictment was announced by Denver District Attorney John Walsh on Friday, December 19, 2025, detailing a series of crimes believed to have taken place between September 2024 and December 2025.
Running a scheme designed intricately, the defendants are accused of carrying out burglaries and mail theft to acquire identities they then exploited to defraud individuals and businesses. According to the Denver Police Department, the alleged criminals went far enough to create a fraudulent MyColorado ID app that they used to forge identifications. Lifting their victims' information from the stolen mail and the dark web, the group supposedly applied for credit cards and made large purchases, including vehicles, in the victims' names. The fraudulent activities have reportedly resulted in losses upwards of $175,000.
"The allegations alleged in the indictment point to a carefully designed scheme that stole the identities of numerous Denver-area residents and then defrauded people and businesses out of tens of thousands of dollars," Denver District Attorney Walsh stated in the press release, according to the Denver Police Department. The repercussions of the theft ring aren't light, with victims possibly facing long-lasting financial ruin and a deep-seated loss of personal security. Walsh emphasized the Denver DA's Office's commitment to prosecuting such crimes vigorously.
Highlighting the collaborative efforts that led to the indictment, DA Walsh commended the entities involved, including the prosecutors and investigators in the Denver DA's Office Economic Crime Unit, the Denver Police Department’s District 4 Narcotics-Anti Crime Team and Investigations Unit, and compliments were given also complimented the investigators from the United States Postal Inspection Service's Denver Office. Together, their investigations culminated in what seems like an airtight case against the accused individuals, all of whom are expected to face serious legal consequences should they be found guilty.
