A 73-year-old Denver man has been handed a 210-month sentence in federal prison for a series of bank and credit union robberies, plus a robbery at a taco shop. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Flozell Beasley, dressed as a construction worker, carried out the armed robberies using a high-quality replica gun over two months in 2023.

Beasley's spree ended when he robbed the Vectra Bank on E 17th Street in Denver on July 11, 2023. A GPS tracker hidden within the money bag led to his capture aboard a Regional Transportation District bus merely twelve minutes later. At the time of his arrest, Beasley had the tracker, the stolen cash, a replica firearm, and his disguise, a construction vest and helmet.

"If you’re thinking of robbing a bank in Colorado, do yourself a favor and find something else to do," United States Attorney Peter McNeilly was quoted in a statement. "We will catch you; we will prosecute you; and you will spend a long time in federal prison," as per the U.S. Department of Justice. The sentence also includes three years of supervised release once Beasley has served his time behind bars.

"This man is a serial bank robber and a lifelong criminal. He has proven that the only way to keep the community safe is to keep him behind bars," said Marv Massey, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Denver FBI Field Office, as obtained by the U.S. Department of Justice. The FBI’s Denver Field Office, along with the Denver Police Department and the Regional Transportation District, collaborated in apprehending Beasley.
