A vehicle collided with a dump truck on the Massachusetts Turnpike at Mile Marker 93 in Auburn. Emergency crews responded shortly before 8:30 a.m., the Auburn Fire Department reported.
Social media images show the car lodged between a guardrail and the dump truck. Officials told WHDH that the driver was able to free himself despite significant damage. Auburn firefighter and paramedic James Whittemore said the accident stood out due to the vehicle’s unusual position.
Capt. Adam Rivers of Auburn Fire Rescue told WHDH, “It certainly looked unusual. Six inches one way or the other I think it would have had a different outcome.” The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Boston 25 News reports that after being removed from the vehicle by fire crews, the driver was taken to a local hospital. Auburn Fire Rescue Capt. Rivers compared the crash to a scene from Christmas Vacation. The dump truck driver also received medical attention and is expected to be okay.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the State police.
