Dyer County authorities confirmed that Sherry Darlene Lydon, 60, has died following a serious car crash. Officials said Lydon had previously been implicated in the shooting of her husband and adult son. According to the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post, Lydon allegedly shot and killed her husband, William John Lydon Jr., while he was sleeping, before shooting her 24-year-old son. The son remains in critical condition at a local trauma center. Authorities confirmed Lydon later suffered fatal injuries in a separate vehicle collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
In a statement, the sheriff’s office noted that Mrs. Lydon had recently undergone surgery and had been experiencing night terrors, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. Officials said those factors were documented as part of the investigation.
Sheriff Jeff Box expressed his condolences amidst the calamity that shook the local community, saying, "This is an incredibly tragic situation that has affected our community deeply. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lydon family during this difficult time, and we ask for your continued patience as we navigate this investigation," as per a social media post.
The sheriff’s office said additional details will be released as the investigation continues. Authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
