Christmas Day brought an update from El Paso County regarding a burglary call that led to the arrest of a local man on several charges, including possession of a dangerous controlled substance. In a statement released on social media, El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte detailed the events that unfolded on the morning of December 22, when deputies responded to an active burglary on Valle Ecuador Road in San Elizario.
The deputies encountered 33-year-old David Silva, who tried to escape notice and initially gave them false identity information, claiming he was simply waiting for an Uber. However, according to El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, Silva was later positively identified and found to have over 30 fentanyl pills along with drug paraphernalia.
Silva's troubles didn't end with his attempt to dodge the deputies. Further investigation brought to light his five outstanding criminal warrants. He now faces charges including "Failure to Identify Fugitive Giving False Information, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1B, and Violation of Probation for Theft of Property," as per El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. These developments underscore a persistent challenge in the region's fight against drug-related offenses.
