As the festive season kicks into high gear, the El Paso Police Department is taking steps to ensure that holiday travel is safe for everyone hitting the road. In a recent social media post, EPPD highlighted its efforts through the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP). The department is mobilizing officers during the Christmas and New Year's period with a clear objective: to help reduce dangerous driving behaviors and keep our roads safer for everyone.
"Thanks to our community, traffic fatalities are down 11% year-to-date. Let's keep working together to finish the year strong — drive sober, slow down, put the phone away, buckle up, and obey traffic signals," the El Paso Police Department urged in its post. This plea is not just to tick a box; it's a fundamental call to action that has been carefully proven to save lives.
According to the El Paso Police Department, these efforts are part of a larger strategy under the STEP grant, which is aimed squarely at Christmas and New Year's - times when the spirit of celebration can often be tragically marred by incidents on the road.
