El Paso Police apprehended a 22-year-old male on December 24th after a traffic stop near Zaragoza and Vista Del Sol, which escalated from a minor traffic violation to a drug and weapon bust. According to the El Paso Police Department's report, officers detected the odor of marijuana which prompted a search of the vehicle, leading to the discovery of illegal narcotics and a firearm.
The individual, identified as Mr. Avila, now faces multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance and unlawful carrying of a weapon. The search of Avila's car yielded less than one gram of THC and less than two ounces of marijuana alongside a 9 mm CZ handgun. For the controlled substance charge, the bond was set at $500.00, and for the marijuana possession, it was set at $100.00, The weapon charge also carried a $500.00 bond.
Following the incident, Avila was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. The arrest is yet another instance of routine traffic stops unveiling more serious law infractions.
