A fatal collision that erupted at the intersection of Pleasant and Prospect streets in Stoughton has claimed the life of an 84-year-old local man, officials reported. The Stoughton Police Department disclosed that the accident occurred yesterday, around 10:40 a.m., during a police pursuit originating from Brockton, as confirmed by Stoughton Police.
Upon notification by the Holbrook Regional Emergency Communications Center of a pursued vehicle by Brockton Police entering their jurisdiction, Stoughton officers attempted to locate the erratically driven vehicle. However, they did not actively engage in the chase, according to the official report. The ensuing crash involved the pursued vehicle and another, leading to the fatality and serious injuries for a 78-year-old woman who was transported to Boston hospital.
The aftermath saw two men attempting to flee the scene on foot. In a coordinated effort using both K-9 units and aerial support from the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, the Stoughton Police quickly detained one suspect, while the other was apprehended at Halloran Park after an intensive search.
The investigation of this tragic incident is being led by the Stoughton Police Department alongside Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office, and includes scrutiny by the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section of the Massachusetts State Police.
