Through its Energy Loan Program, the department is injecting nearly $785,000 into the district's coffers for an energy efficiency overhaul, detailed in an announcement made earlier this month. The district aims to undergo significant enhancements, including the replacement of numerous heating and cooling units, installation of LED lighting, and the integration of a new energy management system, as per the MoDNR.
Kurt Schaefer, director at the Department of Natural Resources, highlighted the initiative's financial upside, stating that communities are "eager to trim monthly expenses and be better financial stewards." The anticipated improvements are expected to net an annual energy savings around $89,557 for the district. The respective investment will be recuperated through these savings, a strategic cycle of borrowed investment fueling future fiscal relief. Further benefits outline a reduction in electricity usage by over 971,090 kilowatt hours, and a resulting drop in carbon dioxide pollution resembling the absence of close to 196 passenger cars annually from the road, as noted by the MoDNR.
