A somber chapter unfolds as the Tooele County investigation into the 2024 murder of a truck driver named Jaspinder Singh leads to the arrest of a second suspect, his ex-wife Jatinder Kaur Purewal. KSL reports that Purewal, 47, was apprehended in California on Nov. 20 and later transferred to Utah, where she faces charges of aggravated murder and aggravated kidnapping, with additional counts of obstruction of justice.
According to KUTV, evidence suggests Purewal was in communication with the first arrested suspect, Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, before, during, and after Singh's murder. Dhillon had been arrested in October 2024 and is accused of the same felonies. In an err to keep clarity, it's important to note the intricate web of relationships. The charged pair share no familial ties with one another, though Purewal has a daughter from her marriage with the now-deceased Singh and is currently married to another individual not involved in the case.
Further unraveling the details, KSL includes information from charging documents that Purewal's daughter expressed fears that her mother was "very capable of killing her dad." Moreover, an acquaintance of Purewal allegedly told police that Purewal had spoken about the murder and had said, "didn't think he was actually going to do it," implying some prior knowledge.
Providing a technological link to the crime, KSLTV reports that a DNA match of Singh on Dhillon's cellphone was confirmed. Additionally, GPS data placed Dhillon within a stone's throw of Singh's truck at the crime scene on the night of the murder. To compound the case against Purewal, authorities allege she intentionally misled them about her knowledge of the events, signaling an attempt to thwart their investigation.
The complex case continues to develop as officials piece together phone records and forensic evidence. Jailhouse communications between Purewal and Dhillon, recorded over a span of two weeks post-arrest, appear to capture the duo discussing their relationship but omitting any mention of Singh's murder. KSLTV notes that during these calls, Dhillon expressed confusion over his arrest, while Purewal briefly mentioned a news article about the incident without acknowledging her ex-husband's demise.
