A tragic collision on U.S. Route 89 near Ephraim, Utah, has resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries after a pickup truck crashed into two school buses. The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. last Friday when the southbound pickup truck veered off course and collided with the buses from Wasatch Academy, according to People. The Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) suspects that fatigued driving may be a contributing factor.
The sequence of events reported by KUTV indicates that the pickup first grazed the bus carrying 19 students, who fortunately were unharmed, and then struck the second bus head-on, which had 18 occupants, all transported to a hospital with two in critical condition, although it is unclear if both victims in critical condition are students or if one is the bus driver. The 43-year-old male driver of the pickup truck was tragically declared deceased at the scene.
As specified by The Salt Lake Tribune, the second bus involved in the crash contained 17 students and their driver, all hospitalized. Amidst the unfolding chaos and concern, Mt. Pleasant City extended "heartfelt thoughts and prayer" in a statement for the students, faculty, and families affected by the accident, as obtained by KUTV.
