A severe collision between a motorcycle and a tractor-trailer in Cobb County led to tragic consequences and traffic disruptions earlier this week. According to Atlanta News First, the incident took place yesterday afternoon around 3 p.m. on South Cobb Drive at its intersection with I-285 southbound. The crash involved a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer and a 2005 Suzuki SV650 motorcycle, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist.
The details of the accident, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, indicate that the tractor-trailer was heading northbound and executed a left turn onto the southbound entrance ramp for I-285. This maneuver put the truck in the path of the southbound motorcycle, leading to the fatal collision. The motorcyclist sustained severe injuries upon impact, prompting emergency services to pronounce them dead at the scene.
Following the incident, traffic on the southbound lanes of South Cobb Drive was significantly affected. SKYFOX 5 captured aerial footage showing the aftermath of the crash, with cones deployed to block off the accident site near the Smyrna Inn. The motorcycle lay on the asphalt close to the I-285 on-ramp, while the tractor-trailer was stopped a short distance away from the crash location.
Road closures persisted for over than two hours as authorities conducted preliminary investigations and dealt with the vehicles and debris. These lanes have since reopened.
