A three-alarm fire that erupted in an Oakley multi-family home on Monday evening has tragically left several people without a place to call home. According to Local 12 News, the fire began shortly before 9 p.m. at a residence located on Brotherton Road near Marburg Avenue. Firefighting teams managed to put out the blaze after approximately an hour of intense efforts.
While no serious injuries were reported, two adults and two kids were evaluated on-site for potential complications related to the incident. In an attempt to provide shelter from the freezing temperatures, a Metro bus was dispatched to the scene, offering a warm refuge for those affected by the fire. Yet the devastation ran deep as a total of five people were displaced, facing the grim reality of losing their home right as the holidays neared.
District Fire Chief Nicholas Caliguri highlighted the ferocity of the fire to FOX19, noting that flames had spread "into the building's walls and void areas," eventually reaching the attic space. The battle with the flames was further complicated by the dangerously low temperatures, which necessitated the sounding of a third alarm. Regrettably, the Cincinnati Fire Department discovered no smoke detectors in the building, a chilling reminder of the necessity for such life-saving devices.
As the Cincinnati Fire Department continues its investigation, the American Red Cross has been called in to assist the displaced individuals in finding temporary housing. "75 firefighters responded to the scene, with many called for backup due to the cold weather conditions," said Cincinnati assistant fire chief Matt Flagler, in a statement obtained by WLWT. The extent of the damage caused is still unknown, though initial estimates suggest around $200,000.
