The governor intends to proactively protect Floridian interests against the rapid advancement of technology. Indeed, DeSantis aims to not allow the technology to simply operate unchecked, endorsing a set of principles that would work to enhance, rather than replace, human experiences. One of the key concerns is the construction of hyperscale data centers, colossal infrastructures that need vast amounts of power and water, which may offer short-term job creation but little to no long-term economic benefits to local communities. "Once built, they may only employ a handful of people, often bringing in workers from outside the community," DeSantis remarked during the discussion, as reported by CBS12.
Amid environmental concerns and high utility costs potentially being offloaded onto residents, the governor reinforced that the companies constructing these centers should not be able to pass their expenses down to families already struggling economically.
