Stuart police have taken a Florida man into custody after he allegedly sent explicit images and videos to a person he believed was a 13-year-old girl, who was in fact an undercover officer. According to CBS12, 22-year-old William Rogers from Live Oak was charged with transmission of harmful material to a minor and the use of a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony, with an arrest made by the Suwannee County Sheriff's Office the day after a warrant was issued.
The warrant, which was issued on November 25, came as a result of an undercover chat in October during which, Rogers reportedly sent several selfies and inappropriate videos. The recipient of these materials was an undercover Stuart Police detective, a fact unbeknownst to Rogers. "The Stuart Police Department will remain committed to locating, investigating, and holding accountable those who prey upon children," the department asserted in a post shared by their Facebook page.
Stuart police emphasize the seriousness with which they treat these offenses, actions which aim to safeguard children from exploitation. The police used a strategic approach to identify and apprehend Rogers, demonstrating the proactive measures law enforcement agencies are willing to take in order to protect minors from harmful online interactions. Details of the court proceedings against Rogers have not been released at the time of this writing.
