The Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct has filed ethics charges against former Mesa Municipal Court Judge Raymond P. Schumacher, alleging inappropriate physical contact with a court employee. The cited violations include Rules 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and 2.3(B) of the Arizona Code of Judicial Conduct. A hearing is scheduled for January 8, 2026, before the nine-member Commission.
Details of the allegations and Schumacher’s responses are available from Alberto Rodriguez, PIO for the Arizona Administrative Office of the Courts. Disciplinary Counsel Brian A. Bohan is leading the Commission's case, while Schumacher is representing himself.
Hon. Christopher P. Staring, chair of the Commission, will preside over the proceedings. After reviewing the evidence and arguments, the panel will determine whether Schumacher committed judicial misconduct and impose a sanction ranging from a public reprimand to lifetime disqualification from judicial office in Arizona. Any action will be subject to review or approval by the Arizona Supreme Court.
The upcoming hearing is open to the public. Journalists who wish to record the proceedings must submit a request form on the court’s website. The Commission, an independent state body handling judicial misconduct complaints, includes six judges, two attorneys, and three members of the public.
