Early Wednesday, a multi-vehicle collision on the H-1 Freeway in Kapolei, Oahu, left four people—including two children—with serious injuries. KHON2 reports that a 33-year-old man, a 35-year-old woman, a 15-year-old girl, and a 9-year-old boy were treated at the scene by Honolulu EMS and rushed to the hospital.
The crash was reported around 6:15 a.m., prompting a response with four ambulances and the District Chief. An HNL Alert closed all eastbound lanes, disrupting morning traffic for over three hours before reopening around 9:55 a.m.
KITV reports that the Honolulu Fire Department responded alongside EMS. Five vehicles were involved, but all occupants were able to exit safely before emergency crews arrived.
Despite the quick response of Honolulu EMS and HFD, the community is questioning what more can be done to prevent accidents on congested freeways. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have not released further details. The city hopes for the swift recovery of the four injured in the crash.
