Fugitive Accused of Assaulting Georgia State Trooper Arrested in Tennessee Truck Stop

U.S. Marshals have apprehended a fugitive accused of assaulting a Georgia state trooper after a manhunt that ended at a truck stop in Lenoir City, Tennessee. Jamie Carlos Thomas, the man involved in the altercation with Trooper Rachel Iverson last Tuesday, Nov. 25, was taken into custody without incident, Marshals officials informed. According to a WVLT report, the incident initially transpired in Warner Robbins, on State Route 247, setting off an extensive search.

Following the assault that resulted in minor injuries to Iverson, the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force pursued the case and received a tip on Wednesday indicating that Thomas might be in East Tennessee. The Eastern Tennessee Smoky Mountain Fugitive Task Force, conducting their inquiry, determined that Thomas was possibly at a Loves Truck Stop based on solid leads, as detailed by WATE's coverage.

“I would like to commend the deputy U.S. Marshals and task force members in Georgia and here in my district for their excellent investigative work in tracking down this subject that fled from justice after committing a horrendous offense against a law enforcement officer,” U.S. Marshal David Jolley said, his statement obtained by WVLT. The sentiments echoed an assurance that fugitives, regardless of where they hide, will be found and brought to justice.

Once in custody, Thomas was transported to Loudon County Jail where he was booked as a fugitive from justice. The collaborative efforts among the U.S. Marshals Service and local law enforcement including the Chattanooga Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and Rhea County Sheriff’s Office were instrumental in the successful operation. This cooperation was noted in WBIR's report. Thomas is currently awaiting proceedings to address the assault charge levied against him.
