St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre announced that a one-way traffic plan will be in effect for Christmas Eve bonfire viewing in Garyville. The plan is designed to help manage traffic and improve safety during the event, according to the St John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office Facebook post.
The contraflow will run from 6 to 9 p.m., with bonfires scheduled to be lit at 7 p.m., weather permitting. Westbound traffic on LA 44 (River Road) will be limited to one lane from Church Street to LA 54, as reported by the St John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office.
All eastbound traffic on LA 44 will be redirected northbound on LA 54 toward Airline Highway. Sheriff Tregre encouraged attendees to arrive early, avoid parking on major streets, and use caution when walking along River Road, as per the St John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office.
