An officer-involved shooting in DeKalb County, GA is currently under scrutiny by GBI agents, following a dispatch to a domestic dispute that evolved into a roadside altercation, resulting in the wounding of one man last Sunday. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken up the case to ascertain the circumstances of the incident at the behest of the DeKalb County Police Department, as reported by the GBI's official website.
According to initial reports, the confrontation occurred late at night, around 11:30 p.m., when law enforcement responded to a call from Wood Bend Drive. The officer on the scene encountered a man in the vicinity, who, though seemingly unconnected to the reported domestic issue, was found near a handgun on the ground. The officer issued instructions for the man to detach himself from the vicinity of the weapon, and to lay down away from it. The man, however, proceeded towards the officer instead of following the directive, resulting in the officer discharging their service weapon, striking the individual once.
Post-shooting, the wounded man was transported to a local healthcare facility and is currently noted to be in stable condition. The GBI's inquiry into the shooting remains impartial and ongoing. Upon its completion, the detailed findings of the investigation will be handed over to the District Attorney’s Office of DeKalb County for a thorough review and further action, if necessary.
