The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently evaluating the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that took place in Atlanta. Joshua Knox, a 31-year-old Atlanta resident, was wounded during an encounter with an off-duty Atlanta Police Department officer late on Christmas Eve.
Details shared by the GBI release state that the incident occurred around 11:50 p.m. at an apartment complex on Middleton Road. The officer was informed by locals of a possible gunshot victim in the area. Upon arrival, he came face to face with the armed Knox and issued multiple verbal orders for him to lay down his weapon. Knox's alleged refusal to comply led to the officer discharging his firearm several times, hitting him at least once.
Knox remained conscious after the event, and was subsequently transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for medical attention. The GBI's investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and upon its conclusion, findings will be presented to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for further examination.
