
In a troubling incident on Saturday night, a bus carrying members of a Grand Junction high school wrestling team collided with another vehicle in the Denver metro area, resulting in multiple injuries. The Lakewood Police Department reported the accident occurred around 8 p.m. at the intersection of W. 6th Avenue and Kipling Street. According to CBS News Colorado, the bus involved was from Mesa County Valley School District 51 in Grand Junction, and it was carrying students and coaches from Central High School.
Paramedics and emergency crews responded to the scene promptly, transporting all individuals on the bus to area hospitals. The extent of the injuries has yet to be disclosed, but families of those affected were promptly notified by the school district. The affected lanes of Kipling Street were closed for an undetermined period as investigations by LPD continued, with drivers being advised to steer clear of the area. Mesa County Valley School District 51 issued a statement, provided to 9News, confirming their students' involvement and outlining their actions in response to the incident. "This evening, a District 51 activity bus carrying high school students following a wrestling tournament was involved in a traffic accident in the Denver area. Emergency responders arrived quickly and provided immediate assistance," the district stated, as per 9News.
The school district's release also noted their collaboration with local authorities and first responders, emphasizing their focus on supporting the students, families, and staff shaken by the collision.
