A Christmas Day fire at a Gwinnett County apartment complex displaced 13 residents, including three children, according to fire officials. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that firefighters responded around 2:15 p.m. to the MAA Pleasant Hill Apartments on Pleasant Hill Road in Norcross, where flames were coming from a second-floor balcony. Firefighters limited the spread, but two apartments were heavily damaged.
The fire was caused by an individual cooking on a porch, who reportedly helped evacuate residents as the fire grew. The fire department ruled the incident accidental.
The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced, including ten adults and three children, AccessWDUN reported. Fire officials reminded residents about the risks of cooking or grilling on balconies following the incident.
