The streets of Holyoke witnessed a convergence of law enforcement and alleged criminal activity early last week, leading to the arrest of a local man now facing multiple narcotics and vehicle-related charges. Holyoke Police Department's social media post detailed the Friday arrest of 37-year-old Santiago Soltren-Ramirez following a gun call in the vicinity of 330 Main Street.
Around 3:00 a.m., Officer Samuel Rodriguez was patrolling when he received reports of an armed individual at a gas station. Soltren-Ramirez, spotted inside a vehicle, attempted to flee, but officers conducted a traffic stop near Spring Street and Clemente Street. Officer James Kennedy assisted Rodriguez in the arrest. Police reported that the vehicle was unregistered, uninsured, and being driven by Soltren-Ramirez, who had a suspended license.
During the investigation of the vehicle, law enforcement found drug paraphernalia and a significant quantity of suspected narcotics, including heroin and fentanyl packaged in roughly 50-bag increments, along with cocaine and marijuana. They also discovered a CO2 BB replica firearm, showing that while the initial gun report was misleading, it was not entirely unfounded.
Soltren-Ramirez now faces charges including Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class A and B Drug, Possession of a Class A and B Drug as a repeat offender, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended/Revoked License, and additional traffic violations.
