
Early this morning on Kūhiō Avenue in Waikīkī, a Honolulu Police Department officer was injured after a 25-year-old man in a reported mental health crisis attacked him with a knife. The officer was taken to the hospital and is in good condition, while the suspect also injured himself and was detained for a mental health evaluation.
According to the Honolulu Police Department on their Facebook page, an attempted murder investigation has been opened following the incident. The case shows the risks law enforcement can face when responding to situations involving mental health crises.
Joshua Perry-Pruski has been charged with Attempted Murder on a Law Enforcement Officer and two counts of Attempted Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. His bail is set at $500,000, the Honolulu Police Department said.
