More than $2.1 million in state funds have been channelled into local Indiana communities for vital road and bridge enhancements, State Rep. Heath VanNatter announced. The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program is the financial muscle behind the initiative, offering a critical lifeline to municipalities needing to patch up their infrastructure. The program, a child of the House Republicans' 2016 legislative efforts, is bolstering nearly 200 communities with a healthy $100 million share of state matching grants for this round of funding.
"The Community Crossings program continues to give communities the support they need to maintain and improve critical infrastructure," VanNatter emphasized in Indiana House Republicans statement. This move is tagged as a bid to ensure safer, well-maintained, and reliable roads for the residents of Indiana. The coins from this state trove enable local leaders to propel these projects onward.
Among the areas reaping the grants are Burlington, receiving $160,608; Carroll County with a cool $1 million; Delphi, scooping up $915,200; and Kempton, grabbing $78,027. This financial injection follows a structured criterion, obliging smaller municipalities to put up 20 percent of local funds, while heavyweights have a 50 percent match requirement. It was reported VanNatter highlighted this eligibility requirement during his announcement.
Moreover, an equitable distribution is sewn into the state guidelines, earmarking half of the matching funds each year for communities in counties with populations of 50,000 or lessers. Sown since 2016, the seeds of the Community Crossings program have now sprouted into an impressive $2 billion worth of investments in local road and bridge enhancements.
