The City of Indianapolis released a Facebook post summarizing public safety and community updates from 2025. According to the City of Indianapolis, its Gun Violence Reduction Strategy contributed to a decrease in criminal homicides and nonfatal shootings, with reported reductions of nearly 45% and 44%, respectively. This resulted in 386 fewer people impacted by gun violence.

Officials also reported a 16% year-over-year decrease in total crime. About 63% of city residents now have access to the Clinician Led Community Response team, which provides mental health support during crisis situations. The program works alongside the Indianapolis Fire Department, Indianapolis EMS, and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department to respond to mental health-related calls.

The City of Indianapolis highlighted efforts to improve transparency and access to information, including updates to IMPD’s strategic plan and expanded availability of neighborhood crime data through the department’s Transparency site. Outreach efforts through Indy Peace continued, with the program connecting residents to resources and supporting violence prevention initiatives. The Indy Peace Fellowship program reported 138 active fellows, with 13 participants graduating from its fifth cohort.

Looking ahead to 2026, the city stated plans to continue focusing on prevention, expand community-based solutions, and improve public safety infrastructure. New facilities for Indianapolis Fire Department and Indianapolis EMS personnel are currently under construction.
