Hawai‘i Island authorities are investigating the death of 26-year-old Japanese tourist Kan Ogoshi at South Point’s Kalae Cove Park on Sunday. Police responded to a distress call at 1:31 p.m. after Ogoshi, who was cliff jumping with family, failed to resurface, according to the Hawaiʻi Police Department.
Bystanders pulled Ogoshi to shore and performed CPR until Hawaii Fire Department medics took over. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Ka‘ū Hospital, as reported by the Hawaiʻi Police Department.
The Hawai‘i Police Department says they do not suspect foul play in Kan Ogoshi's death. The case is under investigation. Anyone with information can call the non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311 or email Officer Rodney Kekaualua, Jr. at [email protected]. Ogoshi’s family has been notified.
