A 16-year-old is in custody after what North Las Vegas police describe as a multi-agency, five-mile search led by the department’s Police Services Unit and K-9 Ciro, following an alleged robbery with a deadly weapon. Officers say the teen was eventually found hiding in a neighbor’s backyard and arrested.
Police report that a search warrant served at the juvenile’s home turned up the handgun believed to have been used in the robbery, the clothing allegedly worn during the incident, and four additional firearms. The teen’s mother was also arrested on suspicion of being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.
According to the North Las Vegas Police Department, officers say the juvenile took off on foot when they arrived. K-9 Ciro then went to work, tracking the teen through multiple neighborhoods before leading officers to the backyard where he was found.
"Another day in the office….PSU spent the day working a Robbery with a Deadly Weapon case involving a 16-year-old suspect," the North Las Vegas Police Department wrote in its Facebook post. The department added that the search of the suspect’s home uncovered the reported robbery firearm, the clothing from the crime, and four more guns, and that the youth's mother was booked on the ex-felon firearm allegation.

The department credited its K-9 unit with locating the juvenile and said officers from nearby agencies assisted throughout the multi-mile search.
