A routine response to a suspicious vehicle call by Central District officers in Knoxville, Tennessee, culminated in a significant drug bust this past Sunday. The Knoxville Police Department took to social media to detail the commendable efforts of local law enforcement, reporting the seizure of a large quantity of suspected narcotics.
At about 6:30 p.m., according to the department's Facebook post, officers were dispatched to investigate a minivan with Michigan plates that had been suspiciously stationary the entire day at an apartment complex on Woodlawn Pike. Callers reported unusual activity, specifically people repeatedly entering and exiting the vehicle. Upon arrival, the officers encountered Torrie Foster, 23, behind the wheel with a backpack resting on his lap — and a pungent whiff of marijuana emanating from the van.
A subsequent search by the officers unearthed more than 78 grams of what is believed to be marijuana, over 28 grams of suspected fentanyl, and a lesser quantity, 3.58 grams, of what could be heroin. The discovery of these substances signaled a potential public health risk averted. Fentanyl, in particular, is highly potent and has been linked with a significant uptick in overdose deaths across the nation.
Foster now faces serious charges related to the possession and intended distribution of illicit substances. "Foster was arrested and charged with manufacture, sale and delivery of Schedule I and Schedule II drugs and possession of Schedule VI drugs," the Knoxville Police Department detailed on Facebook. The arrest underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the proliferation of illegal narcotics that continue to menace communities.
