A multi-day search at Lake Natoma ended in tragedy late Monday morning when crews recovered a body from the water, bringing a grim conclusion to efforts to find a man reported missing over the weekend. Officials at the scene said the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office responded to investigate the death. Friends had first sounded the alarm after discovering the man’s e-bike and personal belongings near the shoreline late on Dec. 27.
Recovery Confirmed by State Parks
According to CBS Sacramento, California State Parks officials confirmed that crews recovered a man’s body from Lake Natoma at about 11:20 a.m. Monday. Search teams had been out on the water since the weekend after friends last saw the man late on Dec. 27. State Parks said the missing person’s e-bike and other items were found along the lake’s western edge, just downstream from Black Miner’s Bar.
Multi-Agency Search Effort
KCRA reports that California State Parks coordinated a multi-agency response that included the Sacramento County Sheriff’s dive team, as well as Folsom Fire and Folsom Police. The station notes that additional personal items discovered along the American River Bike Trail on Sunday led officials to expand the search area. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is now handling the death investigation at the scene.
Family Posts and Local Reaction
Local coverage from the Folsom Times says a man identifying himself as the missing person’s father shared on social media that his son had been found, writing, “Just wanted to update everyone, they have pulled my son from Lake Natomas.” The outlet reports that friends and neighbors had been closely following the search and sharing updates with the community, while officials have not yet publicly released the name of the person recovered or formally confirmed whether the body is that of the man reported missing.
What’s Next
Authorities say no further details will be released while the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office works to identify the body and determine the cause of death, and the investigation remains active, according to CBS Sacramento. Once the coroner’s work is complete, officials will be able to confirm whether the recovered body is the same individual who was reported missing.
