Land Park’s old-school scoop shop is officially on the clock. Vic's Ice Cream, the neighborhood institution that has sat dark behind construction boards for months, says it will welcome customers back on January 3, 2026, after a remodel and a change in ownership. Regulars who have watched the gutted cafe from the sidewalk are expecting a return to the classic counter service and in-house scoops, with those familiar teal walls and checkerboard floors back in business to ring in the new year.
The reopening date was shared on Vic’s social media, according to ABC10. The parlor at 3199 Riverside Boulevard has been scooping near the corner of Riverside and 4th since 1947, as per a listing from CBRE.
New owners and remodel plans
The longtime family business changed hands in late 2024. The sale to a local ownership group was first reported in November by the Sacramento Business Journal. The new team plans to bring back in-house ice cream production by installing pasteurization equipment and to revamp the neighboring cafe into a coffee-forward concept, according to Sacramento Love.
History and the community
Vic’s future was an open question earlier this year after the death of longtime owner Craig Rutledge in March 2024, an event that prompted the family to consider selling the business, KCRA reported. On its website, the shop says it has “gave our historic building some much-needed love, brightening the space while keeping the heart and tradition alive,” language the new owners say reflects their approach to refreshing the landmark without stripping away its history.
When to plan a visit
If you have a Vic’s craving, circle January 3, 2026 on the calendar. That is the reopening date the business shared on its channels, according to the station. The owners are expected to post updated hours and any menu changes on Vic’s official pages as opening day gets closer.
