The City of Lawton is recognizing the hard work of its employees and partners, highlighting their ongoing commitment to public service. Alex Moore, a Maintenance Technician with the Medicine Park Water Treatment Plant Division, was recently commended for his efforts in educating future industry professionals. Moore provided students from the Great Plains Technology Center with an in-depth tour of the facility, explaining the water treatment process from pumps to PLCs and control systems. According to the City of Lawton’s news release, Moore’s ability to break down complex systems left a lasting impression on the students.

City officials also highlighted standout community support beyond the classroom. During this year’s Lawton Fort Sill Freedom Festival and International Festival, the Marine Corps School of Artillery, under the coordination of GySgt Arian F. Maceda, partnered with Arts and Humanities House Manager Stavis Morman to deliver exceptional event assistance. The team organized the involvement of 14 Marines who collectively contributed more than 1,000 hours to help ensure both festivals ran smoothly. Their efforts ranged from building stages to managing parking logistics and operating ADA golf cart transportation, reflecting the level of dedication behind these major community events.

True heroism was witnessed in the actions of Firefighter Joved Serrano of Station 8, who received the True North Award for his remarkable conduct while off duty. "Joved was flagged down for help during a medical emergency involving an individual in cardiac arrest," reports the City of Lawton. With no hesitation, Serrano administered CPR until the arrival of on-duty responders and remained at the scene to support the patient’s family and communicate vital medical information.
