A man was taken into custody on multiple charges following a coordinated law enforcement operation in Leicester, as per a recent announcement from the Leicester Police Department. The arrest occurred last Saturday, after officers responded to an incident involving an armed suspect who had reportedly been involved in a shooting in nearby Worcester and had retreated to a residence on Paxton Street.
According to a social media post from the Leicester Police Department, the suspect was still armed when he was located, creating a dangerous situation for both a person inside the home and the officers arriving on the scene. Police from Leicester, Worcester, Spencer, Charlton, and the Massachusetts State Police worked together to establish a secure perimeter before apprehending the suspect without further incident.
Investigators from the LPD conducted a follow-up investigation which included executing two search warrants at the suspect's home. The result of these investigative actions led to the suspect being charged with an array of serious offenses. Arraigned on Monday at the East Brookfield District Court, the charges against the suspect included Assault & Battery on a Family or Household Member, Strangulation/Suffocation, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Unarmed Robbery, Witness Intimidation, two counts of Vandalism, Carrying a Firearm while Intoxicated, Threatening to Commit a Crime, specifically Murder, and Evidence Tampering.
In light of the gravity of the charges, especially concerning the domestic violence allegations, the court has held the suspect without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. To protect the identity of the victim's and maintain the integrity of the judicial process, the Leicester Police Department has not publicly released the suspect's name.
