In a significant ruling on Monday, Robert Braden Jacobs, a 21-year-old man, was sentenced to 14 years in the Department of Corrections following his guilty plea to a series of drive-by shootings in Loveland back in November 2024. Jacobs pleaded guilty to charges including attempted second-degree murder and aggravated retaliation against a witness or victim, as reported by 9NEWS.
The Loveland Police Department had received three 911 calls in the span of roughly 90 minutes on the morning of Nov. 10, all reporting shootings directed at homes. Denver7 further explains that the last of the 911 callers linked their family to a recently resolved domestic violence case and suspected the shootings were a form of retaliation, a connection that was later confirmed during the investigation.
Jacobs, identified by the Loveland Police Department as the son of the individual convicted in the aforementioned domestic violence case, was arrested on Nov. 11, 2024. A search of his vehicle at the time revealed a firearm complete with empty magazines. The Reporter-Herald adds that, as part of the plea agreement, several other charges, including counts of first-degree murder with extreme indifference, were dismissed.
Reflecting on the severity of the case, District Attorney Gordon McLaughlin stated, "The impacts of gun violence are always terrible, but when it is used to intimidate a victim of a crime, it preys on the fear that already exists for those who come forward to report they have been victimized." This quote was highlighted in multiple reports, including from Denver 7. No injuries were reported as a result of the shootings, a fact for which the District Attorney expressed his gratitude, along with praise for the diligent efforts of law enforcement and the prosecution team.
