23-year-old Pablo Virgilio Chubbeb has been arrested on charges of sexual battery after allegedly raping a woman in a rural area of Southwest Miami-Dade. According to the arrest report, Chubbeb is accused of threatening the 22-year-old victim before forcibly removing her pants and raping her. After the incident, he allegedly issued threats to prevent her from reporting the assault. Authorities indicated that during questioning Chubbeb initially denied the charges but later confessed to the crime, and due to his status as a Guatemalan citizen, an immigration hold has also been placed, according to NBC Miami.
Meanwhile, in Miami's Flagami neighborhood, a man awoke to an unsettling scene in his own apartment, Local 10 News reported a suspect, identified as Maykel Rodriguez Jr., 34, was touching him inappropriately and then proceeded to urinate on him; Rodriguez, after committing the act, left the scene with the chilling remark "I know you." Following a description provided by the victim, Rodriguez was apprehended a few blocks away by police, and charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, battery, and indecent exposure.
The court found the situation severe enough to entertain upgrading Rodriguez's charges to an assault or battery during a burglary, which carries the possibility of a life sentence. The prosecutor Nessa Eth highlighted the egregious nature of the crime in court. Rodriguez, who served five years in the U.S. Air Force, according to his attorney Peter Heller, is represented by an attorney who asked the court to set a bond, but the prosecutor successfully argued for a pre-trial detention without bond pending a hearing. Judge Mindy Glazer, acknowledging the weight of the accusations, scheduled Rodriguez for an additional court hearing, as detailed by Local10.
Details on both court proceedings continue to unfurl as the Miami-Dade judicial system proceeds with these serious criminal allegations.
