A tragic incident in Loudon County led to the death of a man after a standoff with law enforcement. The Loudon County Sheriff's Office reported that Connor Dehart died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound when deputies attempted to serve him with outstanding warrants, including charges for evading arrest, theft of property over $10,000, and manufacture, delivery, sale, or possession of meth. The event took place at a residence on Maple Hill Road in Loudon, as detailed in reports from WVLT and WBIR.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on December 26. Deputies found Dehart outside his home initially but, fleeing inside, he locked himself inside once deputies arrived. Subsequent to his barricading himself, attempts were made to coax Dehart back outside, but were unsuccessful. "The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to Dehart’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time as they grieve this tragic loss," said a statement from the Loudon County Sheriff's Office, mentioned in a WBIR report.
Deputies announced themselves and entered the home after their attempts failed to draw Dehart out. As they made entry, a gunshot was heard, and Dehart was afterward found in a bedroom with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was provided first aid by the deputies before Priority Ambulance Service responded, transported him to Fort Loudoun Medical Center, and later, Dehart was flown by Lifestar to University of Tennessee Medical Center, as narrated by a social media post from the Loudon County Sheriff's Office.
Despite medical interventions, Dehart succumbed to his injuries after several hours spent at UT Medical Center. In response to the incident, detectives from the Sheriff's Office and agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have followed up, continuing their investigation into the circumstances leading up to Dehart's death. "Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division of the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office, along with agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, responded to the scene and are continuing to investigate the incident," shared in a Facebook announcement from the Loudon County Sheriff's Office.
