A tragic outbreak of violence erupted in an East Memphis neighborhood Saturday night, resulting in the death of a man and leaving local residents grappling with the aftermath. According to FOX13, the Memphis Police Department (MPD) was called to a shooting on the 200 block of Grove Dale Street around 11:30 p.m., where they found the male victim, who was rushed to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
One neighbor, Frank Griffin, conveyed to FOX13 that he heard what sounded like 70 shots and disclosed that a bullet had struck his home, coming perilously close to his daughter's bedroom. Originally hosting a Christmas pajama party, flyers promoting the event were unearthed by FOX13, indicating that attendees received the party's location through direct messages. The presence of federal agencies like the FBI and ATF, which even included an explosive detection K-9, underscored the intense concern for neighbors.
Simultaneously, neighbors reported to WREG about witnessing a near hundred-gunshot barrage, with some of the rounds making their way into their residences. Jessica Gurley, a resident, recounted that she saw men wandering with automatic rifles around 9:30 p.m., long before the shooting escalated. Gurley attempted to alert the police about the unusual activity and the large gathering at the rental property next door, but reinforcements arrived only after the situation had already turned violent.
While the excavated home listing was found across several real estate marketplaces, attempts to contact the listed property owner were unfruitful. A woman at a related address declined to provide details but mentioned that her husband was in touch with the actual homeowner, as reported by WREG. Adding to the sequence of events, Local Memphis reaffirmed that the altercation involved several unidentified men, and anyone with information has been urged to contact CrimeStoppers.
