
A tragic incident unfolded on a Thursday morning in Sandy Springs when police responding to an assault report shot and killed a man alleged to have drawn a weapon on them. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that the encounter, which took place near Roswell Road and Dunwoody Place, escalated rapidly, resulting in LaAndre Marktanne Thomas being shot by officers at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Officers provided medical assistance to Thomas after the shooting, but he died at the hospital. No officers were injured. Details remain limited, including the number of shots fired and the condition or involvement of the woman linked to the initial assault report, FOX 5 Atlanta reports.
CBS News Atlanta reports that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is involved. This is the agency’s 76th officer-involved shooting investigation this year and the second involving Sandy Springs police in 2025. The Sandy Springs Police Department is investigating the assault while awaiting autopsy results from the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
